Putting it off

This blog became a bit of a source of shame due to the lack of updates – the more I thought about it, the more embarrassed I was about not updating it so kept putting it off.

No good reason really, except I did sort of move jobs (same company, different hours – no longer getting up at 5am on weekends so started going out till 5am instead! Hooray, socialising).

With less than 3 months to go until 30 I’ve realised I’m not bothered about doing everything on the list. Continue reading

Getting Perspective: An Experiment In Doing More Things

Hi. I’m new here.

Before the internet we just did things. Now we do them whilst blogging about doing them. It seems you don’t exist unless you have a presence on the internet so here is my fingerprint.

This blog was originally going to be a bucket list type thing. A few months ago the Evening Standard published this list of things to do before you’re 30. Everyone loves a list (including me). This one was ostensibly based around Beyonce announcing her pregnancy, but was really an excuse to publish a list of materialistic and contradictory cultural norms.

They advised readers to ‘build your brand’ by having 1,000 twitter followers, closely followed by the suggestion to drop out by becoming a yoga teacher. Or how about ‘dump the debt’ whilst also becoming the owner of a designer handbag? Yes, really.

It’s not that there’s anything wrong with aspiring towards those goals – before or after 30. But they are not the only things out there to do. And certainly not the most spiritually fulfilling (apart from maybe yoga). There are also plenty of other (more ambitious) 30 before 30 blogs like Celine’s 30 Before 30 Project and Stacking Pennies… but I decided to write my own anyway.
